Decadence (89810032)

Decadence (89810032), originally uploaded by Shutterhack.

Decadence: "Refined aestheticism, artifice, and the quest for new sensations...." well that's one way of putting it.

It was a very fine morning, the river was so calm, soothing to my heart, so I decided have another shot at the Crystal Mosque coupled with the main landmark of the "city", the Bukit Besar. The ruling government have been trying so hard to justify building such a monument for the people, well I guess this presentation wont help much.

Lucie and Max came to Terengganu (89810008)

A couple of friends drop by in KT, they were on their way to Bali, so I took them for a drink at the Heritage Bay Club.

I'm trying some variations of traditional portraits with minimal processing, so I decided to upload this one to have your opinions on it.

Toys 'Я' Us (89830029)

Whether your RC car is electric or fuel powered, you can be assured that your car will need a lot of maintenance from repair and upgrading of car parts to cleaning and tuning to make sure that your race machine can hold its own out on the race track among other RC cars.

So you see, these RC cars are true toys for the big boys. They are something that can be appreciated by grown ups in terms of complexity and ability for real races and it allows men to feel like boys again even for just a while.

Kimberley Rew once sang.. I'm Walking on Sunshine (89800031)

Sorry, but I don't consider being born in the 80's really defines being an 80's child. What it really means is you were partying in the era , were you of age?, no one really cares if you were 10 years old and still having mom drop you off at the rollar skate rink. Being an 80's child you were most likely born between 1960 and 1970. You had big hair, wore spandex and leather, lots of jewelry, make-up, and bandanas. Masses of parties that were all heavy metal oriented and you dressed up like your favorite rock star. The groups you listened to were Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osborne, Whitesnake, Metallica, Dire Straits, etc, etc.. The music was actually better then and you could relate to it as you layed in your bed under your black light and stared up at all your posters on the walls of your favorite bands, and you even had those velvety black light posters. You rushed to the book store every time a new editon of Hit Parader and Circus Magazine hit the shelf. You had enough heavy metal albums to stock a record store. MTV was your mentor as you sat for hours watching every heavy metal video that came out and the headbangers ball was what you watched late Saturday nights after coming in stoned. This was before MTV started to suck and become talk shows. This is the 80's child.

Come to think of it, not bad from the cheapest lens ever made by Nikon. Ah and about the slide film, the vividness of Velvia is still there in the 100F. Although the speed is higher, 100F still has extremely fine grain. I definitely recommend that for landscape photography.

Mother And Child Reunion (000017)

Mother And Child Reunion by Paul Simon

No I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
But the mother and child reu-nion
Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine...

Paul Simon wrote this in response to the Jimmy Cliff song "Vietnam;" a song about a mother receiving a letter about her son's death on the battlefield. Simon recorded this song in Jamaica using Cliff's musicians, hence the very authentic sound.

The book I'm working on (DSC_1893)

Datin Nona, the creator of "Senyum Sokmo: Colourful Encounters in Terengganu" was interviewing Alex Lee Yun Ping from Ping Anchorage (Terrapuri, a project by Alex Lee). He said, "A big obstacle to heritage conservation is the local mindset that looks up to all things foreign while scoffing at what’s ours. Old wooden houses, for instance, are seen as a symbol of backwardness and poverty, not as possible antiques."

Domesticated Fishing Boat (_DSC1123)

At a glance, I am amazed how much different their life must be aboard the fishing boat. The boat is like a little cocoon, sheltering them from both the weather and the stress of city life that ordinary people live in.

A boat requires a different type of upkeep than a house. I've never heard of a house sinking from neglect, but a boat needs frequent checking for wear and tear. Inevitably, things deteriorate faster in the salty environment, and with each new repair to tackle. Thus making one come out a little more accomplished from the experience. One has to learn how to repair hoses, change engine oil, install new pumps, rewire electrical systems and a host of other skills.

Bananarama Along The River (_DSC3974)

Life can be extremely slow in Terengganu, well I guess that's why I left London for Terengganu back in 1991 and never look back ever since.

For example, if you've never left your home and you want to see the Perhentian Island, book the trip, regardless of your age. I know some people's response would be, "It's not that simple." But it is, if you just let be. It is all a matter of dedicating yourself to your own happiness.

If you hate your job, commit yourself to finding another one that makes you happy and still supports the lifestyle you require. If you want to learn the guitar, then do it on your lunch break or wake up an hour early to practice.

Malay Aristocratic Architecture (DSC_2001)

Amazingly, not a single nail is used. Instead, the whole structure is fitted together using wooden joints held in place by pasak (wooden pegs).
